Knitting Group
Would you like to Wrap with Love? On Monday lunchtimes we will be meeting in the library 1 area to learn to knit and crochet squares to make blankets for less advantaged people. We are hoping to make at least three blankets before winter arrives, so come join us.
Learning to knit
Knitting is like typing or using a computer mouse. It is only tricky for the first few rows. After that it becomes easier and easier because your fingers know what to do. Don't give up it you find it difficult on your first Friday - keep practicing and it will become easy. You might even be one of the talented people (who make me so jealous!) and learn it right away!
These YouTube clips show you how to begin knitting (casting on) and do a basic "knit" stitch.

When you finish your square you will need to finish it off so that it does not unravel.

More advanced Knitting
We have several books in the library which teach you more advanced knitting techniques and have lots of projects, from scarves and bags to hats, jumpers, mittens and socks. You can find them in the non-fiction section at NF 746.43.
Another useful place to find lessons, hints and projects is the online networking site Ravalry [https://www.ravelry.com/account/login]. This is a place for knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners from all over the world to get together to inspire each other and show off their latest projects. This is an awesome site, but remember it is a public site, so make up a name and don't give away ANY personal details.
If you're ready to learn new stitches and techniques, talk to Ms Carmyn and we'll show you how to do them. There are also examples of different kinds of squares on the Wrap with Love site.
For some serious inspiration look at these yarn bombing/ guerilla knitting links.
