Studies of Religion: 2 Unit course
Introductory Resources
If you've ever asked "Why are we studying this?" have a look at this introductory lecture from Lloyd Pietersen at the University of Gloustershire [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWEwtPkPSEo]. While this is for background context and will not be in your exam, have a look at the way the different religions and ideas are joined in his mind map. These links will be valuable for your classwork.
If you study this subject (and even if you don't!) you should be watching Compass and reading articles such as those on ABC's Religion and Ethics [http://www.abc.net.au/religion/articles/2010/07/28/2966921.htm] site. Even if you find some of the words or ideas difficult, trying to read them will help you in your HSC when you are trying to understand multiple choice questions full or jargon.
The Nature of Religion and Belief

Religion in Australia
In the preliminary course you will find out about Aboriginal spirituality and how the colonisation of Australia and policies since colonisation have impacted on Aboriginal spirituality. It would be good to revise Yr 10 History on Aboriginal experiences before you start, but the emphasis is on Aboriginal spirituality today, not stories of the past.
In year 12 you will also learn about which religions are most important in Australia and how this has changed, especially since the impact of multiculturalism.
Devine Consultancy [http://www.devineconsult.com.au/Studies%20of%20Religion/1%20Unit%20SOR%20Overheads.pdf] has some intorductory materials about Aboriginal Spirituality.
This detailed summary [http://cdn1.hubspot.com/hub/142283/[email protected]] covers all the important points and includes definitions of key concepts.

Depth Studies
For 2 unit Studies of Religion you will complete three depth studies - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Compass: Children of Abraham [http://www.abc.net.au/compass/s512955.htm] introduces the three religions from a mystical angle. This is not the usual way of interpreting the religions but it does pick up the way the three religions are linked together.
Thomas Grainger [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qg5ZLOMcpT8] has an excellent introduction to how the Depth Studies work. It's a lecture, but the powerpoint should keep you focused on the main points.
In your depth studies you will need to focus on
One ritual/rite of passage:
