Women in film
Things to think about from the beginning:
1. You will achieve more by narrowing your research to a specific type of fim/TV show, a particular production company or even one year of block busters.
2. You could do a historical comparison or, if you watch foreign films, do a cross cultural comparison (eg American vs Scandinavian crime shows). You could even try comparing films that are targeted toward particular sub cultures (eg surfie films, queer films or christian films).
3. Find out what tools have been used so far to anayse the gender messages in films - start with the Blechdel Test and the Mako Mori Test:

4. This topic needs to go far past a simple statistical analysis. Women in cinema have never just been passive victims of discrimination - they have fought back against sexism in all kinds of subversive ways. How do women in different production roles or fictional resist dominant narratives of gender?
- People like Lucille Ball (I love Lucy) were hugely influential in ways that we may not pick up as C21st viewers. Read https://www.thoughtco.com/the-lucy-show-3529016 vs https://theweek.com/articles/745681/hate-love-lucy .
5. You will have to come up with ideas about why things are different/ have changed so that you can do an analysis of your findings. Start looking for CONCEPTS and REASONS right from the beginning of your research.
If you're doing a feminist analysis, then you need to look at feminist theories. Talk to your teachers about which feminist theories would suit your question best.
